Lazy Thunder, Arts The Beatdoctor's september 2013 release on Lowriders Recordings, was well-received by press and fans alike, both in his home country of The Netherlands as well as over the border. Potholes in my Blog, Earmilk and XLR8R were amongst those who praised Bas Vermolen's new direction under his Arts The Beatdoctor moniker. Beats with as much influence from Hip-Hop beatmakers as from movie composers. Several tracks found their way into sets of DJs, who in turn praised the organic and electronic sounds found in his compositions.
After this initial release, Arts follows up with a collection of remixes, in which the remixing artists got free reign to re-organize, re-contextualize, or drasticly reform the original tracks. The result can be found on Lazy Thunder Remixes.
Kidkanevil's work on Moebius' Travels resets everything in an exquisite dream sequence. The new crispy tactility is breathtaking.
Arts The Beatdoctor brings a new heavyness to Little Brother, where Ella's slow vocals are now contrasted with a serious groove.
Bastard Sugar add a mesmerizing freshness to the monumental Ghost in the Machine track.
We end with Julien Mier's take on Moebius' Travels. Anyone who has heard Jane's Junkyard (his 2013 Lowriders release), knows the detailed work and complex structures he feels well at home in. A home we feel grateful for being invited in.
